Our client’s new film, Help Me First!, has received its world premiere at a prestigious US film festival.
The short horror film is a first live-action venture by Emmy-nominated animator Mike Gasaway (The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron) and was shown at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas – the biggest genre film festival in the US.
It tells the story of three would-be ghost hunters, who enter a haunted asylum, and find more than they bargained for.
The film, which stars Maggie Carr, is a ‘prequel’ to a proposed full-length feature, Help Me!
“It’s a little odd in the fact that we are doing the ‘prequel’ first,” Mike told our companion blog Piece of Pink Pie earlier this year.
“I’m doing this because since I’m moving from animation to live action, I have to prove that I can do live action.
“Believe it or not, it’s been a sticking point for me. I’ve directed over 30 shows and yet that’s not enough for investors. So I decided to write a feature and then write a short that is the prequel to the feature.”
The film, which was shown as a curtain-raiser for a new feature The Autopsy of Jane Doe, sold out three theatres in Austin, and received a very positive response.
Mike now intends to show it at other festivals and to potential investors before it goes on general release.
Weltch Media has been handling publicity for the film, as part of our growing involvement in the arts and entertainment sector.
