The long-awaited first biography of one of rugby's most influential coaches is about to be published - and we played a part.

'Chalkie' White - Leicester Tigers Legend by Martin Whitcombe is due out later this month (25 September 2025) from St David's Press.

Herbert Victor ‘Chalkie’ White revolutionised rugby and transformed Leicester Tigers into the most successful club in England, leading the team to an unprecedented three consecutive RFU cup victories from 1979 to 1981.

Considered the best head coach England never had, White was controversially overlooked for the top job but continued to influence the game's development as the Rugby Football Union’s technical director.

This biography by former Tigers forward, Martin Whitcombe, provides a fascinating insight into the life and career of a true rugby visionary, and we were pleased to have been involved - as the publisher invited us to proofread the manuscript.

St David’s Press and its partner imprint Welsh Academic Press often use our services, reassured by our knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience – and our ability to meet tight deadlines.
