Free-flowing album has instant and profound appeal

An innovative jazz album, recorded on the water, is released tomorrow (Friday 26 June).

Currents by New York-based Dutch artist and musician Vivienne Aerts was recorded on board a 1951 mahogany sailboat De Vouw, as it travelled the waterways of the Netherlands.

Our companion arts and entertainment blog Piece of Pink Pie explains that over two weeks, Vivienne – who is also an accomplished psychologist and academic – transformed the boat into a floating studio, recording tracks which blend jazz and electronica with the sounds of water, the surrounding environment, and even a hint of creaking timbers.

Granted a preview copy of the album, blog writer Andy Weltch described the album as "instantly appealling in ... a profound way" and "a gorgeous collection."
