In Arts & Entertainment

The debut full-length play by Azuka Oforka is currently receiving its world premiere in Cardiff.

The Women of Llanrumney is an historical drama set on a slave plantation in Jamaica in 1765.

Our companion hyperlocal site Rhiwbina Info was at the Sherman Theatre for press night this week (Wednesday 22 May), when reviewer Andy Weltch descibed it as “a truly oustanding play, which deserves to be seen by a larger audience.”

He added that it’s “often moving, sometimes surprisingly funny, and at times absolutely horrific in its portrayal of 18th century slaves and their owners”.

The Women of Llanrumney is at the Sherman Theatre until 1 June.
