First public screening for 'A Fish Out of Water'

Our new animated short film A Fish Out of Water had its first public screening last night (Monday 3 August).

It was shown as part of the monthly MovieMaker programme at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

Animator and director Matthew Creed introduced the film, and he and producer/ co-writer Andy Weltch answered questions afterwards from host Tom Betts.

Illustrator and designer Anthony Richards was also there, as well as several supporters of the production.

"People certainly seemed to like it," said Andy. "There was a very positive response, especially to the funny moments. The audience included several filmmakers and other film enthusiasts, so that's especially pleasing. "We're now hoping for further screenings in the coming months, as we wait to hear from various festivals we've entered around the UK and overseas."

Earlier in the summer, we hosted a private screening for cast, crew, and supporters, but this was the first time the wider public has had chance to see the film.

Described as 'a Victorian tale of the fantastical and bizarre' and set in an alternative version of the 1890s, the film follows the events which unfold when Henry Godliman - a 'chronicler of the extraordinary' (voiced by Robert Daws) - arranges to hear the tales of three sailors, just returned from a long sea voyage.

The script, co-written with Robert Lancey, is based on Andy's original story and has been selected for three film festivals. 

With music and sound by Charlie Diggle, it also features the voices of Francesca Louise White, Richard Oliver, and Samantha Hudson, with additional music by The Grand Old Echo and computer-graphics animation by Stephen Thomas.
