New book reveals human cost of sporting success

The powerful and deeply personal autobiography of former Wales and British Lions rugby international, Dafydd James, is out next week - and we played a vital part.

Offloading – Tackling My Truth reveals the human cost of achieving success in an elite sport that demanded everything.

Capped 48 times for Wales, and in all three Lions Tests on the 2001 tour of Australia, Dafydd enjoyed a highly distinguished 15-year playing career with three Welsh regions and five first-class clubs, during which he scored 129 tries and played in two Rugby World Cups.

We were invited to proofread the book, which provides a fascinating insider’s view of professional rugby union’s early years and Dafydd's immense pride at playing for Wales. But it also discloses how the heavy mental toll changed his life dramatically.
