Our blog: a digital archive of sport, media, education and more

After 16 years, we're archiving the Weltch Media blog to offer readers a rich resource of stories that increasingly read like cultural and digital history.

Among the early entries are practical guides to platforms like Twitter (now X) and LinkedIn, still in their infancy in 2011 - posts which now feel like relics from a time when social networks were new territory for many, but were at least friendly and welcoming places.

From a similar time, our commentary on social media use among UK teams in speedway in 2011 and ice hockey in 2012 show how sports clubs were among those learning to navigate social platforms.

This blend of digital culture and sport continues in later blog entries. In soccer, our Sophie Platt examined speculation around possible new investors in Wrexham AFC in 2020, analysing the unlikely Hollywood connection that would eventually transform global interest in the club.

Our blog has celebrated sport from many angles, from thoughtful looks at Canadian football in earlier coverage to compelling personal narratives. A standout is guest contributor Kelsey Gentles, who shared reflections on her rugby league career and life beyond the game, illustrating the human side of sport and the resilience it inspires.

Our experience and expertise in higher education has led to posts that explore the challenges facing universities today. We've looked at how good communication can help higher education institutions adapt to financial pressures and shifting student demographics.

And in more recent posts, we've looked at the importance of media and communication skills, such as the surprising benefits of media interview training for individuals and organisations.

This is just a snapshot of the posts in our blog, from 2010 to 2025, which is now fully archived here. Our blog continues, and we'll share new posts here in our news section, while the archive remains as a resource to explore.
