Revealing the stories behind the posters in our film

The background posters in our new animated film have stories of their own, a new post on our companion arts and entertainment blog reveals.

The post on the Piece of Pink Pie blog explains that the playbills on the walls of The Wild Rover in our short film A Fish Out of Water are not just for decoration.

Some help paint a picture of this rough establishment in a fictionalised version of an 1890s coastal town - seeking crew members and divers, or advertising a lecture on the dangers of witchcraft.

Others are more quirky -

One invites players to try out for the new Torquay United Association Football Club (which in real life was founded in 1899).

Another advertises a cricket match between Torquay Cricket Club (a real-life thriving team in the late 19th century) and Brent Park CC – the fictional amateur club from the 1990s TV series Outside Edge, whose captain Roger Dervish was played by Robert Daws - the actor behind the voice of our main character, Henry Godliman.

Acknowledging the film’s hints at steampunk, there’s a playbill advertising fictional ‘steam automobile’ races featuring the world’s champion, Mr W. Batten, at Newton Abbot Racecourse – a venue which, in real life, would later host stock car races involving the world champ Bill Batten.
