Alan Ayckbourn's vintage comedy Just Between Ourselves is nearing the end of a five-month UK tour to mark 25 years of London Classic Theatre as a touring company.
Our companion local news site Rhiwbina Info was at the opening night of its brief visit to Cardiff last night (Thursday 3 July).
Praising the authentic set and costume design for this production written and set in 1976, reviewer Andy Weltch also highlighted the "exceptionally good" cast.
But, while it may look like a 1970s sitcom, "it has a much deeper and darker soul than those lightweight TV offerings of the same era," he writes.
He adds: "The laughs here are often uncomfortable, and at times, the tragedy of it all comes to the fore ... so don't expect necessarily to leave the theatre with a smile on your face and a spring in your step!"
The play continues at the New Theatre, Cardiff tonight (Friday) and tomorrow afternoon before moving on to the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham (8-12 July).
