Our sponsored players Kelsey Gentles and Danni Wyatt both helped their teams to victory yesterday (Sunday 19 September).

Kelsey and her York teammates celebrate her try

Kelsey made her return from injury to play 20 minutes in each half, as York City Knights Ladies beat Yorkshire rivals Castleford Tigers Women 28-14 in a double-header with a men’s game.

It was the final game of the Super League play-off season and secured a semi-final against defending champions Leeds Rhinos.

Kelsey scored a first half try in her first game since recovering from a foot injury.

“I had a great time on my return,” she said. “Twenty minutes in each half  blew the cobwebs off! It was great to be back with the girls again, now we are getting prepped for the semi final and hoping to get to that grand final.”

Meanwhile, Danni helped Torquay United Women to a 5-1 win at Bideford to put them fourth in the South West Women’s Premier League.

Helen Kukor scored a hat-trick in her second game for Torquay, with Beth Eversen and Daisy Self scoring the others.

Danni Wyatt – ‘fantastic to get three points’

“It’s fantastic to get another three points, and a great game for Helen Kukor – it’s great to have a clinical striker join our squad and also we welcomed Meg Williams into the midfield from America, who adds so much talent to an already strong middle of the park.

“A few of my shots were saved by the keeper on a day when I just couldn’t get the ball out from under my feet to finish – frustrating, but it happens to us forwards.

“We look into next week to continue building and we face another away fixture to Forest Green”.
