Our Andy Weltch is preparing for the toughest of his monthly challenges so far to raise funds to support mental health and prevent suicide – a trail half marathon in the south Wales hills.

Andy has been running a 10k on or around the 10th of each month through 2020 as part of the Big Moose 1 Million campaign and inviting others to join him as virtual running partners. Andy and his team, which includes hot rod racer Mark Shelper, are hoping to raise up to £10,000 towards the target.

This weekend (December 17) sees him take on his first ever trail half marathon – the Celtic Trail Race from Resolven near Neath to Dare Valley Country Park. It’s 13.3 miles of rough terrain and steep inclines, totalling 2,200 feet (670 metres) of elevation.

“For October’s challenge, we raised the stakes by doing the Cardiff Half Marathon – but this is another level,” said Andy.”This is the last of the monthly runs – and by far the toughest, especially considering the weather at those heights at this time of year.”

Again he will be joined by his friend and running partner Krista Robinson – also taking on her first trail half marathon.

“It will be quite a challenge for an old man with flat feet,” he added. “But it’s such an important cause – literally saving the lives of people struggling with their mental health and considering suicide.”
