Our long-time sponsored Torquay United Women player, Danni Wyatt, has tonight (Sunday 12 July) announced her retirement.

"After a lot of thought, I've made the incredibly difficult decision to hang up my boots," she said in a statement on social media.

Andy Weltch commented: "It has been an absolute privilege for Weltch Media to sponsor Danni for so many years. She has been an inspirational player, captain, and leader - a role model for young players coming through, and a great ambassador for the game.

"It's sad to know she won't be playing for Torquay again, but I know she'll continue to make a huge contribution off the pitch."

Weltch Media first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup and won the goal of the season award.

In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.

And back in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular lockdown comedy promo video With a T.

We continued to sponsor her up to and including last season (2025-26), when the team won the league, Devon Cup, and League Cup, although she sadly missed the entire campaign through injury. She reflected on the season in this blog post, describing it as "one that will stay with me forever".

In tonight's statement, she added: "Walking away from playing is heartbreaking because, if I had the choice, I'd never stop. But sometimes your body makes the decision for you".

Danni will continue to be active – not least as a board member and driving the women's game forward in any way she can.
