Torquay almost seal promotion

Torquay United's women - playing with our logo on their shorts - all but clinched the league title and promotion with a 1-1 draw at AEK Boco yesterday (Sunday 3 May).

They now need a point from next week's final game at Sherborne, although realistically the title is already secured, as second-placed Forest Green Rovers would need to win by 20-plus goals to deny the Gulls.

Winning the South West Regional Women's League Premier Division will mean Torquay move back up into the FA National League at the fourth level of the English game.

United went ahead in the 30th minute yesterday, when Beth Everson tapped home the rebound from a Connie Pengelly header, but a late equaliser by the Bristol hosts meant celebrations had to be put on hold. You can read a report here.

But there was plenty to celebrate at the weekend, with a decisive 10-0 victory over SB Oak Villa in the Red Rock Electrical Devon Women's Premier Cup on Friday (1 May).

Scorers were Katelyn Bell (2), Jasmine Barker (2), Connie Pengelly, Beth Everson, Georgie Knott, Isabel Hillier-Nickels, Roxy Thomas, and an own goal.
