Our sponsored Torquay United player, club captain Danni Wyatt, saw a childhood dream come true, when she scored two goals at the club’s historic Plainmoor ground yesterday (Sunday 18 May).
“At eight years old, I was just a girl with a silly dream to score at Plainmoor.” she said. “Today her lifelong dream came true – it only took 22 years!”
She told us: “I almost can’t believe it. I came on as sub for the second half and scored the next two goals! What a day! I’ll remember it forever.”
The goals helped Torquay to a 6-0 win over Pucklechurch to keep alive the hope of winning the South West Women’s Premier Division and promotion back into the FA National League – the fourth level of the English game.
The other scorers were Tee Kaptein (2), Tracey Cross, and Jasmine Barker. There’s a full match report here.
Next weekend they travel to Sherborne, where a win would seal the league title and promotion.
Danni missed much of the season because of injury, but continued to be active – not least as a new board member.
Weltch Media first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup and won the goal of the season award.
In 2022, she helped the team to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.
