Our sponsored player, Danni Wyatt has expressed her disappointment after Torquay United Women were relegated from the FA Women’s National League with a 5-4 home defeat by Swindon Town yesterday (Sunday 5 May).

Danni Wyatt: ‘Disappointed … But we’ll be back!’

“I’m really disappointed,” said club captain Danni, who had to miss the game due to a foot inury. “There’s not much more I can say. My heart is with the very special group of girls that took on this journey and saw it out until the end. We’ll be back!”

Club chair and director of football, Steve Elswood commented: “So proud of this group in our first ever NL season. They have battled hard all season showing big hearts often against unfortunate hurdles.
“With our relegation confirmed today on the final day, we may be down, but we WILL be back stronger and more educated to compete next time around in the NL.
“To score four against such a strong Swindon Town team at home and still not get the win you need was tough to take but the strengths shown today is a key to making the next step in our own club’s forward development in the upcoming weeks.”

This was Torquay’s first season in the FA National League, which includes the third and fourth tiers of women’s soccer in England. United gained promotion after finishing top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division last season.

We first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup, and won the goal of the season award.

In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.

And in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular comedy promo video With a T.
