We are excited to welcome a new member of the crew working on our upcoming animated short film, A Fish Out of Water.

Stephen Thomas joins the team as a specialist computer graphics (CG) animator, bringing his skills to bear on a key scene.

He has been recruited by our director and animator Matthew Creed, as the project approaches the final stages of production.

“I remember Matt mentioning this new project he was working on, A Fish Out of Water,” said Stephen. “He showed me some artwork, and I was instantly quite envious that he’d snagged a project with such lovely visuals.

“Not too long after, Matt asked if I’d be interested in coming on board to lend my CG skills to the project. I didn’t have to think twice before saying yes. I’ve previously worked with Matt in a similar fashion, creating 3D CG assets that blend into a 2D world, so I knew I’d be right at home with this.

“It’s the kind of work I enjoy most, it feels like 2D animation can have more character and soul compared to most 3D CG”.

Described as 'a Victorian tale of the fantastical and bizarre' and set in an alternative version of the 1890s, A Fish Out of Water is animated and directed by Matthew from a screenplay by Andrew Weltch and Robert Lancey, based on Andy's story.

The “lovely visuals” Stephen mentions are by our designer Anthony Richards, whose work we’ve shared before.

The cast is led by Robert Daws, with Francesca Louise White, Richard Oliver, and Samantha Hudson.

The script has already been selected in two international competitions, and you can find more about it on the film's IMDb page.
