It was a big weekend for Weltch Media’s sports competitors in rugby league, soccer, and online motor racing.

Kelsey Gentles, our co-sponsored Castleford Tigers Women player, scored a hat-trick of tries as the Tigresses opened their Betfred Women’s Super League campaign with a 40-6 win over local rivals Featherstone Rovers.

Kelsey opened the scoring after just two minutes, and soon followed with her second try.

She completed her hat-trick when a Sinead Peach high ball was bundled around the field, Kelsey picked it up and ran in from 10 metres.

“I was so glad to be back on the pitch after over a year out, coming back from injury and a global pandemic just to be able to play rugby again with my teammates felt amazing,” Kelsey told us.

“It wasn’t a perfect performance but there was some real good potential shown today so I’m excited to see how we improve over the next few weeks.”

Nikki Caunce and Danni Wyatt

Meanwhile, our sponsored Torquay United Women players Danni Wyatt and Nikki Caunce contributed to an improved performance in the Devon Cup against Buckland Athletic.

After taking the early lead, Torquay were 2-3 down at half time and ended on the wrong side of a 2-7 scoreline. Danni scored but came off in the second half with an injury – a dead leg and pull in the hip, which should recover quickly.

Despite the scoreline, both Nikki and Danni were pleased with the performance, until the last 20 minutes.

“We played as a unit,” said Danni. “We were really united. Buckland were really complimentary about how we have transformed.”

In the world of esports, our real-life racing driver James Holman was in iRacing action, getting some practice in the Weltch Media-sponsored Audi RS3 ahead of the Irish Digital Motorsport Championship, which starts soon.

He won one of the official iRacing races at Oran Park, Australia, and recorded a top-10 world record time in both qualifying and racing.
