Torquay United Women and our sponsored player Danni Wyatt suffered a 7-0 defeat at high-flying local rivals Exeter City last night (Wednesday 6 September) in a game dedicated to the memory of Danni’s brother, Jordan.

After a minute’s silence for Jordan, respectfully observed by a large crowd under the lights at the Exwick Sports Hub, City took the lead from a penalty after 10 minutes.

Despite some strong passages of play from Torquay, and some spectacular saves by goalkeeper Emma Ayres, Exeter scored seven in all – Jenna Markham four and Sarah Stacey three.

Club captain Danni came off the subs bench after 57 minutes and was immediately involved in the action, but Exeter proved much stronger on the night.

“I can’t thank Exeter City Women enough for their support,” she said. “They gave an excellent performance last night and I wish them all the best for this season. Nothing but respect from me.”

This is Torquay’s first season in the National League after finishing top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division last season to gain promotion to the FA Women’s National League Division 1 (South West) – the fourth tier of the women’s game in England.

We first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup and won the goal of the season award.

In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.

And in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular comedy promo video With a T.
